He is recognised nation-wide as an expert and a leader in the field of minimally invasive thoracic surgery like Video assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS / Key-Hole surgery) and robotic thoracic surgery. He specializes in and has special interest in minimally invasive surgery through key-hole incisions (VATS) for lung and esophageal cancer. Dr Belal also specialises in the management of patients with Myasthenia gravis with or without thymoma who require Thymectomy and is one of the most experienced surgeons in the country for performing robotic thymectomy for both myasthenia gravis and thymoma. He is the first surgeon in the country to have performed Robotic Subxiphoid Thymectomy for patients with Thymoma. He is also amongst the very few surgeons in the country who perform surgery for Mesothelioma.

Dr Belal Bin Asaf has keen interest in teaching ans academics and is a faculty For DNB (Thoracic Surgery) at Medanta - The Medicity Gurugram. He was one of the two Founding faculty of India’s first DNB Thoracic Surgery program at Department of Thoracic Surgery, Sir Ganga Ram Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education & Research where He trained several DNB Super-Specialty (Thoracic Surgery) Candidates and has supervised several research projects as part of candidates’ dissertation. He is frequently invited and has delivered dozens of lectures in various national and international conference on VATS and Robotic Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Belal Bin Asaf’s research interests include outcomes and techniques in robotic thoracic surgery and Video assisted thoracic surgery. A noted author, Dr. Belal Bin Asaf has over 35 peer-reviewed scientific articles including book chapters to his name.
